Responsible Care policy

Milliken Chemical believes that the integrity and sustainability of operations will be achieved through: environmental health and safety excellence, implementation of our environmental and safety policies, commitment to the Guiding Principles of Responsible Care, commitment to our stakeholders, involvement in the community, stewardship of our products, and security of our operations. We will strive for continuous improvement in each of these elements.

Environmental policy

Milliken & Company is committed to operating our plants and facilities in complete compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and other requirements and to operate in a manner that protects the quality of our environment and the health and safety of our associates and the public.

We are committed to strive for a goal of zero waste generation to all media - land, air and water - to be achieved by continual improvement in all of our operations. This goal will guide the conduct of our manufacturing operations, the development of new products, and our interaction with our suppliers and customers. Recycling of materials is an integral part of this on-going effort.

We are committed to encouraging our families, our associates and our communities, through education and leadership, to conserve our natural resources and protect the environment in our daily lives.

We reaffirm our commitment to work with local, state and federal authorities to develop effective environmental solutions that meet tests of practicality and feasibility.

Safety policy

The safety and health of all its people is of primary importance to Milliken & Company. Milliken will devote resources to train its people to perform their jobs safely, to ensure equipment can be operated in a safe manner, to eliminate workplace hazards and to comply with applicable safety and health laws and regulations. Milliken believes that all injuries are preventable, all health risks are controllable and management is accountable.

Risk assessments*

As a responsible manufacturer of chemicals, we perform risk assessments on all of our products.

Key elements of the risk assessment process include the evaluation of a product's potential exposure and foreseeable hazards to the environment and all forms of life. A chemical's properties are reviewed through physical property information, toxicological data, literature searches and structure activity relationships. This risk assessment process also takes into account possible exposures during manufacture, distribution, use and disposal.

A product is not approved for commercial use by Milliken until the risk assessment for that product has been completed. Risk management activities may include implementing manufacturing safety procedures, confirming the data in Safety Data Sheets, product labels or product technical literature, and educating our customers on all aspects of a product and its use. Our proactive risk management process ensures that our products are manufactured, distributed, and used in a manner which minimizes their impact on health, safety, and the environment.
