Vernon Ramiah joined Milliken in 2018, as Territory Manager Sub-Saharan Africa, responsible for both the Plastic Additives and Polymeric Colorants and Ingredients business divisions.

Tell us a bit about your role at Milliken, what does it involve?
"My job is to grow Milliken in Sub-Saharan Africa and this involves developing our partnerships with local South African businesses, as well as those with other international businesses that would like to increase their market share in sub-Saharan Africa. My projects include developing technical products with local and international business partners to meet the demands of an ever-evolving plastic packaging and product formulation marketplace."

What do you like most about your position? What excites you about it?
"I appreciate the fact that I am responsible and accountable for the growth of Milliken in Sub-Saharan Africa in its entirety. Further to this, it is exciting to bring and share global knowledge, gathered by Milliken and all our associates, with African businesses. I am hoping to learn how to become “globally strategic” in my thoughts and execution processes."

What’s your favorite Milliken memory?
"There are many, ranging from the energy and enthusiasm colleagues showed in welcoming, training and retraining me, to how our global matrix organizational structures came together to address challenges that our business was facing in my region. I was also so happy to be invited to LINK at Head Office where I was made to feel like I belong to a family with a vision and mission that aligns to my very core."

What’s special about Milliken?
"We have hired the right people for each function. Our vision is simple but extremely penetrating. It makes me feel proud to stand and hold-up our brand."

What’s one piece of advice you have for someone looking for a job or internship at Milliken?
"Take full responsibility and accountability for your function. You are joining a family where each and every person loves what we stand for."
