Associate Spotlight: Intern Seth Schittekatte looking for colorful opportunities

Chemistry or science internships have a valuable role at Milliken Chemical. They offer the young scientist the chance to learn new skills and test out new environments, but they also bring a fresh perspective to the department or project they are working on.

Seth Schittekatte joined Milliken Chemical in February 2019 and will stay on as science intern until June. He is in the process of obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and his internship is part of his thesis project. As a chemical company that makes hundreds of products and colorants for detergents, plastics, textiles and more, Milliken has a lot of opportunities for scientists looking to make a difference in our various labs in the US and Belgium. Many of our new developments are focused on finding sustainable solutions for our customers in the plastics industry to help support the circular economy.

Tell us a bit about your role at Milliken. What project are you working on?
"I started my internship at Milliken in February 2019 in their Liquitint Lab, where I am mentored by Carlos Morillas. Right now, I am working on a fertilizer project. I will investigate various effects of Milliken technologies in fertilizers. Next to this project I will also run a colorant performance study of personal care products."

What do you like most about your position? What excites you about it?
"I am hoping to add knowledge to the company about my project of effects of Milliken technologies in fertilizers as well as gain my first important professional experience in a lab environment."

What’s your favorite Milliken Chemical memory?
"So far, my favorite memory of Milliken Chemical is meeting my colleagues and learning valuable techniques and procedures from them. They are really helpful 😊"

What’s special about Milliken Chemical? What do you like about the company?
"Milliken Chemical is one of the lead companies in various chemical applications. I am honored that I can be an intern in a great environment, with good people and in an amazing location here in Ghent. Also, I like colors 😉"

What’s one piece of advice you have for someone looking for a job or internship at Milliken?
"If you are looking for a diversified job where you come into contact with lots of different types of products and cooperate with a friendly and helpful team, you should apply!"
